Internship Experience
RENEW POWER
INTRODUCTION :-
Internships give us valuable work experience that proves to be beneficial for our future. Through this blog, I will share my experience with the current internship. I am Devansh Gupta, currently a 4th-year student pursuing B.Tech in computer science engineering from Bennett University(Times of India group) and I have been working as a data engineer at Renew power for more than 2 months. For me, the journey has been up to the mark. So, before going further about the experience, let me give you a brief overview of the company.
ABOUT RENEW POWER :-
Renew power is one of the largest renewable energy-producing companies in India as well as across the globe. It has an approximate capacity of 13.2 GW, which includes solar, wind and hydropower plants. The company contributes to nearly 1.4 % of the total electricity production of India and mitigates 0.5% of the carbon emissions per year. It was the first renewable energy company in the world to be recognized as a ‘LIGHTHOUSE’ by the World Economic Forum.
ABOUT INTERNSHIP :-
So, my internship started on 22nd AUGUST with a two-day induction session where I was told about the workings, ethics, morals, rules, etc. of the company. I was also told about the various other fields that the company is going to enter. After getting briefed about the company, I was taught about the renewable power industry. I learnt about energy markets (such as DAM, GDAM, RTM), how it works and other topics such as government policies, energy biddings, Power Purchase Agreements(PPAs) etc.
After I got an understanding of all these things, I started learning the tools required by the company. I learned various Azure services such as data bricks, ADLS(azure data lake storage), data factory, and logic apps. I started practising APACHE spark and advanced SQL which is required for managing the datasets. Also, I learnt about operational flows that deals with data collection, processing, and implementation at scale. Before my actual project started I was made to do some analysis on the EMS (energy markets), hence providing the required insights. After that, I was assigned to my first project .The motive of this project was to provide real-time data so that the bids could be placed in different markets. Since I was new to this, firstly I was given the task to understand the pipeline and its code so that I could resolve the errors(if they came). After understanding it, I was made to observe the pipeline for the upcoming days. This project ended in mid-October but the task of monitoring the pipeline continues. Along with this pipeline, I am also monitoring another pipeline and resolving the errors which arises when the pipeline runs. Also in between some tasks are given such as web scraping as per the use case requirement which has to be done.
CHALLENGES
Along with all these learnings there were few challenges which I had to face. Firstly, as the renewable industry was new to me, it became difficult to understand how it works and the things associated with it. Also, I had never worked on data pipelines as well as the tools (mentioned above) before which posed a challenge in front of me. But someone has rightly said, “Challenges come and go”. Even though there were a few challenges, I learnt a lot from them. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience till now which is full of fun as well as challenges.
At the end, I would like to say that I am lucky to be placed in a company where there is a splendid work culture and amazing people.
Thank you
